History of Our Club
Alder Park Bowling Club celebrates its 50th birthday in 2007,
still growing strong. Alder Park Bowling Club was named in honour
of Alderman Harry Alder, who, along with Harry O'Keefe,
was a prime mover for the establishment of a bowling club in the
area in the late 1950's.
Through the hard work of dedicated Club volunteers, the bowling
greens and clubhouse were built and ready for service from May
1959. The first green was available for play in May of 1959, built
mainly through volunteer labour, and the second green was added
in 1961- 1962. The Alder Park Bowling Greens are named for Bill
Mitchell and Sam Aspinall, both former Club Presidents who contributed
greatly to the Club's success.
